Jeannine Draper Rowe, age 89, of Alliance passed away at 2:55 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2023 at Crandall Medical Center.
Jeannine was born July 23, 1933 in Ann Arbor, MI to Frederick Meryl and Zella (Spence) Draper. She met and fell in love with a young college student at her church, John P. (Jack) Rowe, whom she married in 1952. They remained in Ann Arbor until Jack’s doctoral graduation from the University of Michigan and then moved in 1962 to Alliance, OH. After moving to Alliance, she attended Mount Union College and received her bachelor’s degree in education. She later attended Kent State University and studied gerontology.
Jeannine loved the outdoors! She was known for her beautiful flower beds and plentiful vegetable garden. She also loved to spend time in their 10-acre woods communing with nature.
She was a teacher by instinct and spent many years leading Sunday School classes at church and Bible studies in their home. She was a Girl Scout leader for 20 years and also a Pioneer Girls leader for some time. She was a positive influence in so many lives, helping to develop the personalities of young women, always challenging them despite what their circumstances were.
In addition to her parents, Jeannine is preceded in death by her husband, Jack, and a sister, Mary (Draper) Cogswell.
She is survived by 4 children, Paula S. Hochradel of Alliance, Jody M. (Tom) Sivy of Louisville, Thomas W. (Kristen) Rowe of Akron, and Mary K. (Jeff) Marszal of Elyria; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; 3 siblings also grieve her passing, Dick (Win) Draper of Okemas, MI, Terry Turner of Slyvania, OH, and David (Sandra) Draper of Marysville, MI.
A graveside service will be held for the family in Tecumseh, MI.
