Jennie Ruth (Ackelson) Johnson died at her home in Deerfield on May 3, 2012. She was 92 years of age.
Born in Canton, Ohio, January 4, 1920, she was the daughter of John E. and Nellie (Auld) Ackelson. Her formative years were spent in Prospect, Pennsylvania, where she attended grammar schools and graduated from Prospect High School in 1937.
Ruth married Howard Ralph Johnson, January 19, 1941, and moved to Deerfield the same year. It was there she devoted her life to the role of homemaker and enjoyed many years as a dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Her greatest satisfaction in life was found in spending time with her family, extending to five generations.
She is survived by her children, Elaine (Richard) Burkey and Darryl Johnson, both of Deerfield, Carole Eagle of Georgia and Janet Crowley of West Virginia; and daughter-in-law, Rachel Johnson of Florida.
Grandchildren who survive are Don C. Sillaman, III, Cheryl Beth (Craig) Wharff, Kevin (Davonna) Sillaman, Lisa (Jon) Snyder, Chad (Heather) Johnson, Neal (Kate) Johnson, Cheryl Lynn (Pablo) Franco and Renee (Geoff) Fullen.
Surviving great-grandchildren are Destiny Sillamam, Ashley (Steve) Maone, Lindsy (Scott) Hinton, Brett Wharff, David Lamb, Joshua, Cory and Tiffany Sillaman, Brittany, Brandi, Zoie and Jaden Snyder, Luke and Lilly Johnson, Georgeanne Eagle, Josef, Owen and Tobi Franco and Sophia and Geoffrey Fullen.
Great-great-granddaughters who survive are Paisley Maone, and Ellie Hinton.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, to whom she was married 69 years; her son, Charles Ernest "Ernie" Johnson and infant children, Howard Jr. and Cheryl Jeanne. She is also preceded in death by her parents, John E. and Nellie (Auld) Ackelson, brothers, Homer and Arthur Ackelson; and sisters, Margaret Shearer, Dorothy Hood, Ruby Weigle and Gladys Ackelson.
A Memorial Service will be held at Deerfield Methodist Church Monday, May 7th at 11 a.m. with Pastors Don Booth and Jody Hill officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at a later date at Hartzell Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank Robinson Memorial step down unit and Robinson Hospice Visiting Nurses and staff for their compassionate care of Ruth in the past months.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Robinson Hospice Visiting Nurse Association or the Deerfield Methodist Church.
