Jesse M. "Mike" Dean, age 89 of Deerfield, died at his home at 8:45 a.m. February 1, 2006.
He was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania on March 12, 1916 to George and Bessie (Boak) Dean and lived most of his life in Deerfield.
Mr. Dean was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Akron from 1945 until retiring in 1978. He was later employed by Deerfield Farms.
He was a member of the Deerfield United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the former Deerfield Ruritans, Deerfield Civic Association, Deerfield Historical Society, Leisure Lads and Lassies, and active with the Apple Butter Festival.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and working in the community for various events.
He is survived by three daughters, Effie Mae (Denzil) Deuley of Deerfield, Ellen (Donald "Doc") Reagan of Ravenna, and Shirley Durieux of Polk, Ohio; two sons, Jesse M. "Butch" (Terri) Dean of Deerfield, and Ed (Tracey) Dean of North Benton, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mildred (Montgomery) Dean, who died March 17, 2002, his step-mother Belle Dean, one granddaughter, Tracey Lynne Deuley, two sisters, Thelma Snyder and Blanche Iovanella, and four brothers, Wendell, Leslie, Russell and Alfred.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Deerfield United Methodist Church with Rev. Douglas Beggs officiating. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Hartzell Cemetery.
