Jim Lear

May 6, 1948 — February 28, 2009

Jim Lear, age 60, of Alliance, passed away at 1:19 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009 at Akron City Hospital.
Jim was born May 6, 1948 in Warren, Ohio to Edwin Lear and Norma (Job) Lear Swab.
A graduate of Alliance High School, Jim attended Wittenberg University, where he played football. He received his Bachelors degree in education from Kent State University and his Master's in education from Ashland University.
Jim taught at Alliance High School for more than 31 years; where he also coached the swim team. Mr. Lear was a well loved and respected teacher, and was the recipient of numerous teaching awards. He also coached the Elks summer swim team.
He was formerly active with the Ulster Project for many years, including two years as a director. Jim coached little league baseball and enjoyed scuba diving.
Survivors include his wife, Carol "C.J." (Miskimins) Lear, whom he married Dec. 8, 1994; children, Aaron (Kelly) Lear of Hudson, Abbie (Matt) Henderson of Kenosha, Wisconsin; step-children, Amanda (Thad) Mercer of Salem, and Mike Long of Clearwater, Florida; four grandchildren; siblings, Rick (Pat) Lear of Seattle, Washington, Cathie Barany of Midlothian, Virginia, George Randall Lear of Pasadena, California, and Lori Vocila of Alliance; and four nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Sams officiating. Friends may call from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alliance High School, 400 Glamorgan Ave. Alliance, Ohio 44601, where a scholarship will be set up in Mr. Lear's name.
