Jo Anne Burr, age 76, of Deerfield, passed away at 2:21 a.m., Sunday, September 1, 2013, at Akron City Hospital.
She was born November 23, 1936, in Alliance, to Raymond and Helen (Clapsaddle) Ruggly.
Jo Anne was a 1954 graduate of Alliance High School and was an Alliance Municipal Court Clerk for 23 years, until her retirement.
She was a past president and lifetime member of the B.P.O. Elks Ladies Auxiliary as well as a member of numerous other clubs and organizations. They include the VFW, Moose Club, Eagles Club, Eastern Star, Alliance Area Republican Club, and many other clubs and organizations.
She had a love of playing cards and enjoyed her traveling card club.
Survivors include the love of her life, best friend and significant other, Dannie Smallwood of the home; sons, Greg (Deanna) Burr of Nashport, Oh. and Chris Burr of Alliance; stepdaughter, Cindy (John) McClure of Alliance; stepson, Dannie (Jodi) Smallwood, Jr. of Limaville; three grandchildren, Seth (Cassie) of Zanesville, Oh, Travis of Kissisimee, Fl. and Reese of Alliance; cousin, John Clapsaddle of Marlboro and numerous other cousins, grandsons and great granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents;.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2013 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Vickery officiating. Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the funeral home. An Alliance Elks No. 467, Alliance Ladies Elks Auxiliary and a VFW Post 1036 Ladies Auxiliary service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday prior to visitation.
