Joan Marie Boyce

Joan Marie Boyce, age 84, entered into Glory on January 9, 2023.

She was born February 19, 1938, in Alliance, Ohio to Clarence C. and Juanita June (Hahn) Shutler.

A 1956 graduate of Alliance High School, Joan was the first female to letter in athletics.

She competed in archery with her late husband, enjoyed horseback riding, art, gardening, flowers, and quilting. She especially enjoyed her friends in the TNT Card Club.

Joan was a top salesperson with Stanley Home Products. After retirement from Custom Poly Bag, she worked as Secretary to Judge Bob Lavery and then Judge Andy Zumbar.

She had volunteered as a Cub Scout Den Leader, as well as with Alliance Hospice, and was extremely active with her church.

As a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Joan was a Sunday School Teacher, served on Council, and as a Treasurer. She was also a member of Deb’s Circle, the Quilting Circle and visited many shut-ins.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son David (Cynthia) Boyce, Diana (Daniel) Cullen, Dale (Angie) Boyce; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her brothers, Charles F. Shutler and Jackson L. (Shirley) Shutler.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Dawn Marie Boyce; her husband, Donald Akers Boyce, whom she married August 24, 1958 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alliance, and who died August 12, 2021.

A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Tim Muse officiating.

Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at Highland Memorial Park.
