Joan Marie (Murphy) Tinker, age 81, of Alliance, passed away at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at Altercare of Alliance.
She was born February 2, 1934, in Alliance, Ohio, to Delvan and Marie (Steinwinder) Murphy.
Joan was a 1952 graduate of Alliance High School and a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church for many years. She worked for Babcock and Wilcox prior to raising her family. She was an independent distributor for Nature's Sunshine Herbs and Vitamins and was affectionately known as "The Herb Lady" by many people she helped. She led the Lexington Junior Grange for 55 plus years and was a Golden Sheaf member. She also belonged to the Stark County Pomona and Ohio State Granges and was selected Ohio Granger of the Year in 2010. She was an advisor for Beechcreek 4H for 37 years and served on the Advisory committee for the Stark County 4H and Junior Fair.
She loved living on her small farm and raising dairy goats and many other animals for more than 40 years. She loved her flowers and spending time with her grandchildren.
Joan lived her life to the fullest loving God, her children, grandchildren, her goats and guiding and loving hundreds of kids through Grange and 4H. She loved assisting people to live healthier by providing them with advice and Nature's Sunshine products.
Survivors include her children, Jonathan (Wendy) Tinker of Arlington, Texas and Jill Marie (Marshall) McNeil of Alliance. She will be greatly missed by her precious grandchildren, John, Emily and Grant Tinker of Arlington, Texas and Jordan, Megan and Jenna McNeil of Alliance. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by her brothers, Al (Izetta) Murphy, and Don (Janet) Murphy; her sister, Barb (Milo) Matthew of Alliance; brother-in-law, Karl Kuntze; and many much loved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father Glenn W. Freshley; her loving husband, Billy Nelson Tinker, whom she married April 11, 1954 and who died June 6, 1998; brothers, Ernest (Jeannie) Murphy and Delvan Murphy; and her sisters, Jean (Harry) Moore and Leoma Kuntze.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, October 12, 2015, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Nancy Manner officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, October 11, 2015, and one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
