Joan (Hoiles) Voorhees, 81, of Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2013, at her daughter's home in Russellville, Kentucky.
She was an Alliance, Ohio, native born September 15, 1931, to the late Arthur Jones Hoiles and Martha Gertrude McHenry Hoiles.
Joan was the Operations Manager for the Bill Voorhees Company in Nashville, Tennessee. She was a member of the Childhood League in Ohio, the Republican Women's Association in Ohio and Florida, the Lifestream Behavioral Center Inc. in Lake and Sumter Counties in Florida and Howey-in-the Hills Garden and Civic Club.
Survivors include her son John David Herbert, Jr. of Nashville, Tennessee, four daughters, Dr. Kathleen H. (Robert) Granger of Covina, California, Martha H. (Steve) Owen of Granada, Nicaragua, Megan H. (Dr. Patrick) Hayden of Russellville, Kentucky and Susan H. (Scott) Brunner of Birmingham, Alabama; stepson, William Mark Voorhees of Nashville, Tennessee; stepdaughter, Kristin V. Copeland of Boone, North Carolina; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five step- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Sugg Voorhees; sister, Mary Josephine Lee; and two brothers, Arthur Jones Hoiles, Jr. and William McHenry Hoiles.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2013, at Christ United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stephanie Lee officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the church until the hour of the funeral. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park. Pallbearers for Mrs. Voorhees will be her grandsons, Major Aaron Granger, Jonathan Granger, Matthew Hayden, John David Herbert, William Bruner, Joshua Bruner and Benjamin Hayden.
