Joe Jay Salter, age 59, of Alliance, passed away at 12:20 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, at Community Care Center.
He was born April 7, 1954, at Salem Hospital to Raymond Sr., and Dorla Ann (Mummert) Salter and has lived all his life in the Alliance vicinity
Joe was a 1972 graduate of Northwest High School and for almost 30 years, worked there as a custodian.
He was a member of the Southside Church of God. Joe enjoyed building birdhouses, arrowhead hunting, gardening, bus trips, reading, and loved his four little acres of heaven. Joe was also a guitar enthusiast and a motorcyclist. Through these activities he met many fabulous people. He always saw the best in them and wanted the best for them.
Vicki Salter would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Cortese and his staff, Alliance Community Hospital's doctors and staff, the Alliance Community Care Center, Hospice and Dawn French, for their loving care of her and her husband. Alliance is very fortunate to have such a caring facility in the community.
Survivors include his wife, Vicki (Hornung) Salter, whom he married February 27, 1998; siblings, Raymond E. Salter, Jr. of Minerva; Jet Ann (Glenn) Proctor, of Hilo, Hawaii, SuLin (Tim) Boudler of Minerva, Paul L. Salter, Penny L. Salter and Joy K. Davis (Joe's twin), all of Akron; stepsiblings, Glen (Kathy) Gaugler of Newton Falls; Terry (Pat) Gaugler and David (Tammy) Gaugler, both of Akron; sisters-in-law, Linda H. Risch of Cranberry Township, PA and Debra H. Bixler, of Erie, PA; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Ruth Gaugler Salter; brother, John H. Salter; and sister-in-law, Molly Salter.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2013, at Southside Church of God with Pastor David Storlie officiating. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, do something nice for someone. Make them smile. Joe would love that.
