John W. Andrie, age 92, of Alliance died at 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at his home.
He was born in Atwater, Ohio September 10, 1915 to Charles J. and Elsie D. (Nidy) Andrie and was a lifelong resident.
John was a 1934 graduate of Atwater High School and a member of Lexington United Methodist Church.
He was employed as an inspector and shipping carpenter at Transue and William Stamping plant for 17 years before retiring in 1971. He also worked at DeHoff's Greenhouse until retiring in May, 1989.
John was a member of the Local Steel Workers Union at the former Alliance Ware and Local Steel Workers Union #1622 at Transue & Williams, the Lexington Ruritans Club and the Republican Club.
Survivors include his sister, Margaret Babington of Niles and several nieces and nephews and a very close friend Gloria Lane.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy K. (Lelesch) Andrie whom he married November 4, 1939 and who died December 12, 1993; his son, Charles W. Andrie; two sisters, Inez Kyler-Grate and Eldis Andrie; three brothers, Elden Andrie, Fred C. Andrie, and James L. Andrie Sr.; and one infant daughter.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Baltzer officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Atwater Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, per family wishes, memorial contributions may be made to the Alliance Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice, 885 S. Sawburg Road, Suite 106, Alliance, Ohio 44601.
