John "Bill" Brown, 83 of Alliance, died Friday Dec. 19, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center, in Canton.
Bill was born Feb. 3, 1925 in Columbus, Ohio to Frank and Mamie (Wilson) Brown.
A graduate of West High School, Bill attended Wittenberg College. He was formerly employed by the Franklin County Treasurer's Office, General Motors, Westinghouse and Metal Forge Co. where he was Quality Control Manager.
He attended Hilltop Lutheran and St. Timothy's Lutheran Church in Columbus. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving in the Pacific Theatre as a Torpedo man 1st Class in Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima.
Survivors include his son, David W. Brown; daughter, Julie Ann (Ron) Jenkins; grandchildren Annie (Greg) Deckerd Kristin Jenkins and John Jenkins; and sisters, Marthann (George) Kneeshaw and Marijean Phillips.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Helen Louise (Grenell), whom he married May 4, 1951, and who died May 17, 1991.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday, December 26, 2008 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Private family services will be held.
