John W. Coy

John Wayne Coy, age 83, of Alliance, died the evening of Monday, December 30, 2024 at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. 

He was born October 27, 1941 in Greenford, Ohio, to Frank and Minnie Bell (Munsell) Coy. After graduating high school, John proudly served in the United States Air Force oversees in Libya, North Africa and stateside at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota. 

After serving his country, he worked for Bacon and Cibula Clinic in Lisbon and then he had a banking career that spanned over 30 years. After partially retiring, John and his family owned and operated an Italo’s franchise for nearly 8 years in Lisbon, Ohio before officially retiring. 

He was a member of the Alliance Church of the Nazarene, where he served as a church board member and was active in hospitality and served where needed. John also served on the District Church of the Nazarene in northeast Ohio for over 50 years. He was also a past recipient of the Distinguished Service Award. 

John was known for his creative ability to bring beauty to ordinary spaces. John was known for his “John-isms” and quick wit. 

John is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Evelyn (Peterson) Coy whom he married on May 25, 1968. John was also preceded in death by both parents, infant son Todd Peterson Coy, three sisters-in-law, and brother, Frank G. Coy. 

He will be dearly missed by his daughters, Joni (Mark) Strank of Lisbon and Betsy Coy of Alliance; granddaughters, Alia (Mark) West of Guilford Lake and Kyrstan Rose of Colorado Springs, CO; great-granddaughters, Sophie, Remi and Lexi West. 

The family would like to thank the care teams at Aultman Alliance, Aultman Canton, and The Cleveland Clinic Cardiovascular Medicine Department for their tireless efforts, dedication, and compassionate care they gave to John over the past few weeks. 

A funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2025 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Friends may call Thursday, January 2, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Friday, one hour prior to the service.
