John E. Crawford, age 87, of Alliance, died at 11:54 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at Aultman Hospital.
He was born December 1, 1924, in Alliance, Ohio, to Arthur B. Crawford and Nora S. (Miller) Crawford.
A graduate of Alliance High School, John attended Ohio State University, where he studied dentistry. In 1951, he received his D.D.S. After practicing dentistry for 39 years, John retired in 1990.
John was a member of the First Christian Church, where he was a member of the board, served as a trustee and member of Quester's Sunday School Class.
A U.S. Army Air Corp veteran, John served during WWII and the Korean Conflict.
John was an avid golfer and was an active member and supporter of the Alliance Art Center, where he enjoyed watercolor painting.
John volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a retired life member of Stark Co. Dental Society, the Ohio Dental Association, and the American Dental Association.
Survivors include his sons, Jeffrey (Angela) Crawford of Cleveland and Randy (Anna) Crawford of Alliance; daughter, Jane (Joseph) Belda of Brighton, Mich.; and four grandchildren, Bethany (Dan) Kelly, Kevin, Stacia (Jim Cardinal, fiancé) and Peter; sister, Jane Speelman of Palos Verdes, CA and twin sister, Quay Kimes of Homeworth; and loving friend, Barbara Hotchkiss of Alliance.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma L. (Blake) Crawford, whom he married March 20, 1949, and who died June 30, 2002; sister, Ruth Donley and brother, Schuyler Crawford.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2012, at First Christian Church, with Pastor Pam Bruno officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church and one hour prior to the service at the church.
