John H. Horning, age 80, of Alliance, was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away at 2:15 p.m., Saturday, June 29, 2013, at McCrea Manor Nursing Home.
He was born October 11, 1932, in Kent, Ohio, to Clarence and Clara (Luikhart) Horning.
John attended St. Patrick's School and was a 1950 graduate of Kent State High School. After graduation he worked for Davey Tree Company until he entered the United States Army in 1953. He served in Korea until his discharge in 1955. He then was employed at Ohio Bell and AT & T until retiring in1988.
John was a member of the St Joseph Catholic Church. He loved his garden and shared the bounty with many friends, family and neighbors.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn (Mougey) Horning, whom he married September 22, 1962; sister, Doris Scott of Kent; and brothers, Glenn of Salisbury, North Carolina, and James of Kent. He is also survived by an aunt, Grace Riise of Kent; and 23 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy; brother-in-law, James Scott; and sisters-in-law, Gloria and Mary Grace Horning.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at St Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Matt Mankowski officiating. Friends may call the hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
