John H. Jack Lins aka Crash and Burn, age 66 of Alliance, died after a long battle with cancer at 5:38 a.m. Jan. 2, 2006 at Alliance Community Hospital.
He was born August 7, 1939 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Clarence and Alice (Linn) Lins and lived in Alliance most of his life. A 1959 graduate of Alliance High School, Mr. Lins was employed by Chrysler Motor Company in Twinsburg and later retired from Ohio Edison Company after 26 years of service. He was also employed by Fairmount Memorial Park.
He was a member of Marlboro Christian Church. He was also a member of the Homeworth Lions Club, where he served as past-president, was Lion of the Year in 1997 and 1998, and in 2004, received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. He was also active with the Lion Pilot Dog Program, Eye Screening Program and headed the scholarship program.
He was a member of the Sebring Masonic Lodge #626 F&AM, 32 degree Mason with the Tadmor Temple, member of Alliance Balsa Bees and BPOE #467.
Jack enjoyed Balsa Bees, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Donna J. (Bondoni) Lins, whom he married July 23, 1960; one daughter, Lori (Cliff) Campbell of Marlboro; one son, William (Teresa) Lins of Alliance; five grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, and Marcus Lins, and Heather and Brittany Campbell; one great-granddaughter, Makenna Lins; one sister, Lorraine Bennett of Alliance; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Marlboro Christian Church with Pastor Ed Harnish officiating. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
