John E. "Putter" Petersberger, age 80 of Alliance, died at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2005 at Alliance Community Hospital.
He was born December 10, 1924 in Alliance, Ohio to John and Marie Petersberger and was a lifelong resident.
Mr. Petersberger attended Alliance High School and retired from Transue and Williams Forge Plant, after working for 35 years as a Tool and Die Sinker.
He was a member of Union Avenue United Methodist Church. He was also a member of BPOE #467 of Alliance, and a life member of the VFW Post 1036 and American Legion Post 166. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
Mr. Petersberger was a U.S. Navy Veteran, having served as a Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class, in the European, North African, Middle East and Asiatic Pacific Theatres during W.W.II. He received a Victory Medal and American Theatre Ribbon.
Survivors include three daughters, Miriam (David) McCleese of Kissimmee, Florida, Martha Strickland of Lakeland, Florida, and Margaret (Stephen) Ligas of St. Cloud, Florida; two sons, John Petersberger of Alliance, and Richard Petersberger of Alliance; seven grandchildren, Michael, Jeffrey, Suzanne, Natalie, Miranda, Lena, and Patti, six great-grandchildren, one niece and two nephews.
Mr. Petersberger was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Dan, and two grandchildren.
Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Gordon Ruggles officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at Western Reserve National Cemetery.
