John R. Boyce age 93, of Alliance died Monday, July 2, 2007 at his home.
He was born July 8, 1913 in Alliance to Huram R. and Amanda (Brunner) Boyce and was a lifelong resident of the Alliance and Minerva area.
Mr. Boyce attended Alliance High School and worked as a welder and fitter at Morgan Engineering before retiring in 1976 on his 63rd birthday after 25 years of service. He was a member of First Christian Church, Alliance Senior Citizens Center and member of the Swingin 60's Bowling League and former member of Parkway Bowling Leagues. He was a member of Odd Fellow's McKinley Lodge # 923, Morgan Retirees and The 3 C's, Civilian Conservation Corp. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, enjoyed ballroom dancing, loved music, especially playing the guitar and mandolin.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred F. (Franklin) Boyce whom he married May 16, 1980; children, Russell N. Boyce of Andover, Janice L. (Wesley) Brown-Day of Bergholz, James L. (Sharon) Boyce of Alliance, Jacqueline L. Brownsword of Minerva, Linda K (David) Medley of Canton, Judy A. (Jeffrey) Mitzel of Carrollton, Timothy S. (Tammy) Boyce of Minerva and David J. Boyce of Columbus; 16 grandchildren, Paul J. (Teresa) Brown, Christina (Damon) Allman, James Boyce, Gabriel Boyce, Carli Dawn (Richard) Oswald, Mark Brownsword, Angel (Todd) Cook, Timothy Renz, Trista Medley, Alisa Medley, Joshua Mitzel, Joni Mitzel, Justin Mitzel, Amanda Boyce, Lindsay Boyce and Scott Boyce; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Eileen Haidet of Alliance; two step-daughters, Joan (John) Morettini and Janice Sponseller, and one stepson, Richard Pennybaker, all of Alliance; nine step-grandchildren; ten step-great grandchildren and one step-great-great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Melba Darnell, Ruth Boyce, Esther Mair and Willis Boyce, one step-son, James Pennybaker, and one step-grandson.
Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Sue DeHoff officiating. Friends may call from 12-1:30 p.m. Friday.
Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
