Prominent Alliance Attorney, John N. Teeple, age 79 died at 1:20 p.m. August 22, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center due to complications from his brain cancer.
Mr. Teeple served in the U.S. Navy as a Lt. Commander both in W.W.II and the Korean Conflict. He continued to serve in the Navy reserves until the onset of the Vietnam War.
Mr. Teeple was a graduate of the Ohio State University (B.S., 1947; J.D. 1950) and a member of Phi Delta Phi. After completing his tour of duty in Korea, he joined the late Milton S. Geiger in the practice of law. They later formed the lawyers of Geiger, Teeple, Smith and Hahn.
Honored as "Alliance Outstanding Young Man" in 1961, Mr. Teeple served for ten years as a member of Alliance City Council. He also served on the board at Alliance Community Hospital.
He was a member of First United Presbyterian Church, where he formerly served as a Deacon. He was also a member of Symposiarchs, Elks, Jaycees, and the Alliance Country Club.
Considered an expert in the fields of Oil and Gas, Real Estate and Corporate Law, Mr. Teeple served as President of the Ohio Oil and Gas Association and was inducted into their "Hall of Fame" in 2002. He was so honored for his contributions to this field, which included revamping the East Ohio Oil's Gas Lease to better adapt to the producing companies needs. He was honored in the Best Lawyers of America.
He also worked with the State of Ohio and was instrumental in getting new rules adopted by the state to help protect the interest of operators.
Mr. Teeple contributed to Mount Union College, the Alliance and Stark County Foundations, and the Alliance YMCA.
Survivors include his wife, Norma (Mullett) Teeple, whom he married Feb. 6, 1948, three sons, John A. Teeple of Oconomowoc, WI, Steven R. Teeple of Thousand Oaks, CA, and Thomas A. Teeple of New York City, NY, four grandsons, Phillip R. Teeple, Christopher Lawrence Penny, Nicholas Teeple, and Steven Teeple.
Mr. Teeple was preceded in death by his parents, Lisle and Lucyle (Miller) Teeple, and his daughter Nancy Teeple Penny, who died in 2002.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Presbyterian Church with Dr. William Sadler and Rev. Jack Dawson officiating. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the church, and one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alliance Foundation in honor of his late daughter Nancy Teeple Penny.
