John H. Weaver, age 85 of Alliance, died on Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at Canterbury Villa.
He was born June 2, 1919 in Alliance, Ohio to the late Lawrence Elmer and Alta (Youtz) Weaver.
A 1937 graduate of Alliance High School, Mr. Weaver was employed by Taylorcraft, Tolerton Lumber Co., Mt. Union Lumber Co. and her retired in 1987 as Vice President and General Manager of R & H Builders Supply in Minerva, Ohio.
John was the Past Commander of American Legion Post #166, Past Stark County Commander, former member of the Scarlet Beret Color Guard, B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge No. 467, Pat President Knights of Malta, Minerva Eagles, United Commercial Travelers, Beechwood Pioneers and a member of Beechwood United Methodist Church.
Mr. Weaver was in the U.S. Air Corp. Reserve (1942-1945) and the U.S. Navy (1945-1946) serving aboard DD-692 Destroyer USS Allen M. Sumner.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie (Rumbaugh) Weaver, whom he married April 24, 1946; three children, Ronald L. (Gloria) Weaver of Maumee, Ohio, John H. "Jack" (Connie) Weaver of Alliance and Karen S. (Ronald F.) Russell of Alliance, five grandchildren; Tom (Jean) Weaver, Rev. Michael (Jana) Weaver, Marcy (Joe) Gaston, John H. Weaver III, Douglas Weaver and great grandchildren Caitlynn Gaston, Ethan Weaver and 1 great grandchild Gaston due in March. John is also survived by his sisters; Lela Barnard of Cortland, Ohio, Dorothy Dourm of Deerfield and Martha Honaker of Alliance.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his 2 Brothers Ralph E. and Robert L. and a Sister Evelyn Dourm.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Joseph Peters and Michael Weaver officiating. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. An Elks Service will be held at 6:30pm on Friday. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park with Full Military Honors provided by the Alliance American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts.
