John Webb

February 12, 1928 — March 9, 2008

John B. "Jack" Webb, age 80 of Sebring, and formerly of Alliance, died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, March 9, 2008 at Crandall Medical Center.
He was born February 12, 1928 in Toledo, Ohio to Christian and Minnie H. (Boyd) Webb.
Jack graduated from DeVilbiss High School in Toledo and earned his B.S. from Ohio State University. He received his Masters Degree in Education from the University of Michigan and worked as an Educator in Michigan and Ohio before retiring as Asst. Principal at Alliance High School.
A U.S. Army veteran, Jack served as a 1st Lt. during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Webb was an active member of Union Avenue United Methodist Church and an elected delegate for the East Ohio Annual Conference in Lakeside. His church activities were many and ranged from vacation Bible School to Stewardship Committee. Jack was known for his culinary skills and was frequently seen busily working in the church kitchen. He was the church photographer for special events and enjoyed providing special vocal music.
Active in many community activities, he was a former Board member for the Alliance Historical Society and Mabel Hartzell Museum, and participated in the Rotary Antique Auction as well as Carnation Days in the Park with the Republican Club.
Jack loved and was a supporter of all arts and theatre. He participated in the Carnation City Players, working with the lighting and sound systems, was active with the Alliance Community Concert Association, Mu Phi Epsilon musical fraternity, and frequented events at E.J. Thomas and the Players Guild.
Jack also enjoyed sports and was the co-founder of the Top Gun Wrestling Tournament. He was a former board member for the National Nippon Society and Noritake Society, member of BPOE #467 and 50 year member of the Sanford L. Collins Lodge #396 F.&A.M.
Survivors include two nieces, Christie Ann Bumgardner of Sun City, Az, and Cynthia Kay Lakowski of Peoria., Az, two great-nephews, John Adrian Bumgardner of Phoenix, Az, and Erick Duncan Misner of Peoria Az, one great-niece, Leigh Anne Bondrole of Peoria Az, and his special friend of many years, Myrtle McClintock of Alliance.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Anne Boyd Hall.
An organ recital will be held in Jack's memory at the Union Avenue United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 6th.
