John D. Catona

John D. Catona, age 63, of Alliance, passed away at 11:46 a.m., Wednesday, October 30, 2019 in McKinney, Texas.

He was born May 17, 1956, in Voila Brasov, Romania to Ioan and Silvia (Gabor) Catona.

John was a high school graduate and self-employed as a Truck Driver for Prosport Express Inc.  in Chicago, Illinois. A very family oriented man, John scheduled his routes so he could include family vacations.

He enjoyed traveling, taking and being in pictures. He was very social, John enjoyed being with others and was ‘the life of the party’, as he enjoyed laughing and dancing with his daughter Emily and friends.

He was always smiling, and was an optimistic person, and if stressed, would just ‘let it go’.

He was a member of St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church, where he enjoyed singing and being a Cantor.

Survivors include his wife, Emilia (Savu) Catona whom he married August 24, 1996; daughter Emily Catona; sister, Steluta Apostolescu of Romania; cousin, Margaret Sherban of Alliance; and niece, Patricia Apostolescu of Romania.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ioan and Silvia; sister, Maria Marinela Catona; aunt, Elena and uncles, Aurel, Ioan, and Gheorghe.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 7, 2019 at St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church with the Very Reverend Father John Nemes officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, November 6th at St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church. A Saracusta Service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
