Joseph S. Szasz Sr., age 84 of Alliance, died at Canterbury Villa Monday July 4th, 2005.
He was born in Alliance, Ohio on October 6, 1920 to Joseph and Katie Szasz Szasz and lived all his life in the Alliance area. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1940.
Mr. Szasz retired from Morgan Engineering after working in Sales and Advertising.
He was a Veteran of the 127th Infantry Division 32nd Infantry Division. He received a Battlefield Commission, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Szasz was a member and past master of the Conrad Masonic Lodge, Tadmor Lodge, 32 degree Knight Templar, Elks and the American Legion. He was a member of the Hartzell Museum, Republican Club, and I&S Association for 43 years.
Joe was a member of First United Presbyterian Church.
In 1947 he served as the Chairman of the building committee for the Fire Station on Broadway St.
He is survived by his wife, M. Virginia (Murari) Szasz, whom he married June 21, 1947; a daughter, Jan Hinerman of Alliance; two sons, Joseph Szasz Jr. and James Allen (Rebecca) Szasz, both of Kissimmee, Florida; grandsons, Nate Hinerman and Joe Papineau, both of Alliance, Adam Szasz of Florida, Jimmy (Amber) Szasz and Nick Szasz, both of Florida, granddaughter; Kate Szasz of Canton; great-grandson Connor of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Margaret Szasz Bush.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. William Sadler officiating. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday. Conrad Masonic Lodge will conduct services at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
