Joseph E. Wise, age 88, of Alliance, passed away at 5:45 a.m., Monday, November 9, 2015, at Crandall Medical Center.
He was born December 30, 1926, in Howard, W. Va., to Thomas and Sarah (Blake) Wise and lived in Alliance from a young age.
A decorated U.S. Army veteran, Joe served as a Military Policeman during the Korean War. After the war he was a general foreman at American Steel Foundries where he worked for 30 years.
A true patriot, Joe was a member of the VFW and American Legion serving as a member of their Honor Guard and Color Guard. He also enjoyed golf, fishing, bowling, dancing and was a competitive horseshoe player. He may be best known for the many years of playing Santa Claus.
Survivors include his children, Pamela (Russell) Chester of Medina and Gary (Deborah) Huggins of Newark; companion, Lois Fabritius; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; and 11 brothers and sisters.
Services will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Peters officiating. Friends may call from 3-5 p.m. prior to the service. Interment and military honors will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 16, 2015, at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
