Joyann Miller, age 79, of Alliance, owner with her husband of the former Jack and Joy Shoppe Children's Store in Alliance entered into her Lord's Kingdom on June 22, 2007 at 7:45 p.m. at her home with her family at her side.
Joyann Miller was born in Sebring on June 7, 1928 to Ralph and Jessie (Crawford) Stevenson. She graduated from Alliance High School in 1946, and graduated from Mount Union College with a B.S. degree and taught third grade for three years at South Lincoln School.
Joyann Miller was a member of the Alliance Senior Center, Belleflower Garden Club, Alpha Xi Delta Alumnae, Jaycee-ettes, Y.W.C.A., Alliance Area Republican Club, the Continued Learning Program committee at Mount Union College, was a Red Cross volunteer for many years, and was former member of the Alliance Woman's Club.
She was an active member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of Club 55 and member and leader of Naomi Circle.
On Aug. 10, 1952, she married Jack E. Miller and in 1953, they started the Jack and Joy Shoppe at Mt. Union Square and moved to 640 W. State St. in 1966 and remained there until retiring in 1984.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed watching her grandchildren in school functions and ball games. Other favorite pastimes were traveling and playing bridge.
She is survived by her husband, Jack E. Miller; daughters Janet (Randy) Hartzell and Judi Ince, both of Alliance; four grandchildren, Ryan Hartzell and his fianc?e' Nicole Seifert, Brooke Hartzell, Kyle Ince and Luke Ince; half-brother William Obney of Canton; cousins Gunnie, Marge and Neal (Sarah) Hunt, who were like siblings to her; and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Stella Hunt (who raised her), brother, Ralph Stevenson Jr., and cousins Ralph and Blaine Hunt, who were like brothers to her.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Frank Gross Jr. officiating. Friends may call from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
