Joyce C. DeGroff

Joyce C. DeGroff, age 96, of Atwater, was taken unto the Lord on Monday, July 31, 2023. She passed peacefully in her home, surrounded by loved ones.

Joyce was born on the 18th of March, 1927 to Arthur and Dorthea Dutro. She was raised in Akron, Ohio where she attended Kenmore High School and graduated in 1945. Thereafter, she began her career as a legal secretary at the Summit County Courthouse, eventually meeting her husband, Leo J. DeGroff. They were wed on the 7th of December, 1957.

Joyce and Jack were blessed with three sons, Kirk, Todd, and Scott. They lived in Akron where Joyce became a Sunday school teacher at the High Street Christian Church until moving to Atwater in 1979.

In Atwater, Joyce and Jack were members of the Atwater Methodist Church. Joyce remained in Atwater for the next 44 years where she spent her time spreading joy to all of those around her. She led life with a smile on her face and true happiness in her heart. She loved reading and being a mother. Joyce will be remembered for her genuine happiness, her commitment to her family, her faith and a never waning smile.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo and her brother, Kenneth.

Joyce is survived by her sister, Gara (Bill) Hoffman; sons, Kirk (Patricia), Todd (Terrie), and Scott; her grandchildren, Nicholas, Jennifer, James (Catlin), Kristen (Josh), and Matthew; and great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Harrison.

A funeral service will be held at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home on Monday, August 7th at 12:00 p.m. with a visitation two hours prior.
