Judith K. "Judy" Carr, age 78, of Alliance, passed away at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 19, 2016, at her home.
She was born September 13, 1938, in New Philadelphia, Ohio, to Roy J. and Ellen M. (Butler) Nichols.
Judy graduated from Alliance High School in the class of 1956 and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
She formerly served as a secretary in the Marlington and Alliance School Systems, was former State Representative in the 57th district from 1993-1994. She was elected Mayor of Alliance in 1995-1999 and served as Alliance City Auditor from 2001-2003.
Judy was a realtor for Century 21, Union Station Agency and Campbell's Cornerstone Company from 2000-2006. She served on the Board of Elections, volunteered at the Veterans Hospital and was head of the volunteers and worked in the gift shop in Lake City, Florida.
Her affiliations and civic projects included: past president of Alliance Exchange Club, past secretary of Mount Union University Women's Club, member of Stark County Farm Bureau, Stark County Association of Realtors, Ohio Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, Alliance Senior Citizen's Center, American Legion Post 166 Auxiliary, VFW Post 1036 Auxiliary, Alliance Historical Society, Science Hill Historical Society, Alliance Area Black Caucus, Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber's Women's Division of which she was a past chairman, Alliance Chapter No. 296 Order of Eastern Star, Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, Alliance YWCA, Carnation Festival Board of Directors from 1983-1989, and Carnation Festival Board president in 1989.
Judy was recipient of the 2001 Favazzo/Jeswald Award, 1998 Athena Award and Who's Who Among Outstanding Executives in 1996.
Survivors include her son, Jeffrey M. (Carol L.) Hartzell of Perry Township; daughter, Jody (Ronald J.) Fernandez of Alliance; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Roy (Violet) Nichols of Sebring; sister, Sandra J. Fink of Lake City, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents preceded her in death along with her husband, Francis "Jim" Carr whom she married March 14, 1987; and a sister, Phyllis Ruschke.
A private memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, November 27, 2016, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Marty CashBurless, Chaplain of University of Mount Union officiating. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday after the service.
