Kathryn Louise (Long) Saltsman

Kathryn Louise (Long) Saltsman, age 86, passed away, under the care of Hospice of the Valley, Friday morning, March 1, at Crandall Medical Center.

Kathryn was born October 19, 1932, in Dellroy, Ohio, to the late Kermit and Lesta Long.

She graduated from Carrollton High School in 1949 and attended Mount Union College, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority.

Kathryn and her first husband, the late, Donald C. Hume Jr., started a real estate business known as Hume for Homes, which was active for 45 years. She was also licensed to sell real estate. She owned her own business, Kathy’s Bridal Shoppe on East State Street in Alliance for 13 years.

On May 24, 1986, Kathryn married her best friend and devoted husband, William B. Saltsman.

She was a member of the Hill and Dale gardeners, Alliance Woman’s Club, Alliance Country Club and the First United Presbyterian Church, where she served as chairperson for their endowment fund for many years.

Kathy enjoyed playing cards, golfing, flower arranging, traveling and sharing special moments with beloved family and friends.

Her kind and gentle spirit, fun and laughter, will be missed so deeply by all who were blessed to know her.

She is survived by her husband, William B. Saltsman; her children, Cynthia (Douglas) Cunningham, Donald C. Hume III (Candy), Scott Hume (former wife, Vickie); her grandchildren, Michael Cunningham, Amy (Jason) Scott, Bill (Jessica) Hume, Donald (Rachel) Hume IV, Emily Hume and Amber Hume; her great-grandchildren, Jake Scott, Ava Scott, Maddison Seison, Cody Hume, Madison Hume, Harley Hume and Devyn Hume; and her siblings, Pat (Dick, deceased) Lesley, Jack (Barbara, deceased) Long, and Scott (Janice) Long.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Donald C. Hume Jr.; sisters, Marilyn George and Marjorie Hobson; and brother, Richard Long.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 4 at 4:00 p.m., at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Chaplain David Parry officiating.  Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
