Kenneth William Jones, age 90 of Alliance, passed away peacefully at his home at 7:20 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 2010.
A lifelong resident of Alliance, Ohio, he was born December 30, 1919 to the late William and Lillian (Morgan) Jones.
He was a graduate of Alliance High School in the class of 1938. Kenneth was a U. S. Navy veteran and served in the South Pacific aboard a LST during World War II from 1942 thru 1945. He was involved in the invasions of Saipan and Okinawa as the helmsman of a Higgins Boat. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
Kenneth was a machinist at Alliance Machine, a metal patternmaker at American Steel Foundries, and later retired from TRW in Minerva. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Alliance for over 45 years.
He is survived by his sisters, Marjorie Ruggles of Alliance and Doreen (Jay) Unkefer of Hudson, Florida; sister-in-law, Priscilla Rusyniak; and several nieces and nephews.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Irene (Elteto) Jones whom he married September 11, 1948, and who died August 5, 2002; brothers-in-law, Harry E. Ruggles, Ralph Twyman, and Mike Rusyniak; and sister-in-law Olga Twyman.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Gordon Thomas officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
