Kenneth Earl Pearce, age 82, of Alliance, died at 11:20 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010 with his family at his bedside at Alliance Community Hospital.
Mr. Pearce was born, November 19, 1927 in Ross County, Ohio, to George Hallard and Amy Garrison Pearce.
He was raised in New Holland, Ohio, and served in the Navy as an air traffic controller after World War II. He attended the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. After graduation he was employed by the Bendix Corporation, of Detroit, Michigan for his entire career, where he was a tax accountant and corporate director of payroll and pensions. In 1992 he established the Pearce Tax Service in Alliance.
While living in Michigan, he served on the school board as treasurer and president of the Cherry Hill School District and as treasurer at Grace Moravian Church in Westland, Michigan. He loved sports, especially Ohio State athletics. He was an avid golfer and had ten "holes-in-one" throughout his lifetime at golf courses in Michigan, North Carolina, and Ohio. A member of the BPO Elks No 467, he was also a former member of the Alliance Country Club, where he served on the board of directors.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, G. Pauline (Sheridan) Pearce of Alliance, whom he married November 6, 1949; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey R. and Martha Pearce of Long Grove Iowa, daughter and son-in-law, Leslie A. and David Austin of Alliance; five grandchildren, Michael and Leanne Austin and Thomas, Katherine and Corinne Pearce; and one great granddaughter, Mavis Pearce Austin.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Thomas and Roy; and sisters, Mildred and Melba.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at the Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Martin officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2010 at New Holland Cemetery in New Holland, Ohio.
