Kenneth D. Skipper, age 90, of Alliance, passed away at 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at Altercare of Alliance.
He was born February 2, 1924, in Hopedale, Ohio, to Doyle Russell and Sylvia June (Beckett) Skipper.
Mr. Skipper was a January 1943 graduate of Alliance High School and Salem Trade School in electrical engineering. He taught trade school at Alliance High School and retired from Rotek Inc. in Aurora as a mechanical and sales engineer. He was formerly employed at Babcock & Wilcox Research, Alliance Machine Company, and Alliance Manufacturing in Alliance and Morris Instruments in Hudson. Since his retirement he had been an employee of Tannenhauf Golf Course.
He was a member of the Vine Street United Methodist Church, where he served on the trustee board, pastor-parish, finance and nominating committees and former choir member. His other memberships included Conrad Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Valley of Canton for more than 40 years and American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Ken was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II as a Motor Machinist Mate 2.
He loved to golf, work on his computer and especially time spent with his family.
Survivors include his wife of more than sixty-eight years, Doris (McKenzie) Skipper whom he married March 17, 1946; daughter, Lynne (John) Bowen of Sarasota, Florida; son, David Skipper of Warren; grandchildren Sherry Jensen, Jody Hicks, Danielle Skipper and Matthew Skipper; three great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Janice K. Carlile.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at Vine Street United Methodist Church with Dr. David W. Bloor officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, October 20, 2014, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. A Masonic service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Monday before visitation. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
