Kenneth Benjamin Snode, age 87, of Alliance, passed away at Bel-Air Care Center on Wednesday July 8, 2009, with his wife and children at his side. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Ken was born August 20, 1921, in Alliance to Ida (Pauli) and Benjamin Snode. He grew up on the family farm, and in 1959 was instrumental in converting the farm into Tannenhauf Golf Club. He was an owner and the general manager for many years and continued working on the course until just a few years ago.
Ken attended Science Hill School before graduating in 1939 from Alliance High School. After serving as a medic with the U.S. Army in Germany during World War II, he graduated from Mount Union College in 1947. He was a charter member of Lexington Ruritan Club, and served as its first president. He was also a charter member of the Ohio Golf Course Owners Association and a past president. Other organizations included the Lexington Grange as a charter member, the National Golf Course Owners Association and the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. Ken was honored by the Alliance Exchange Club with the Book of Golden Deeds. He was an active member of Science Hill Community Church for over 60 years.
Ken is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Wagner Sponseller) Snode; his children Lanny (Susan) Snode of Alliance, Marcia (Bill) Haught of South Carolina, and Sharon (Chris) Stroup of Alliance; his step-children Kimberly (John) Ameser, Ray (Shelly) Sponseller, and Ron (Tina) Sponseller, all of Alliance; Kelly (Tom) Jackson of Virginia, Kerry Sponseller of Missouri, and Ryan (Camilla) Sponseller of Alabama; brother Melvin (Marilyn) Snode; and sister Alda (Floyd) Williamson, both of Alliance; 22 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Janice (Bowling) Snode.

A private family service will be held Saturday. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home.
