Kevin Cunningham

February 15, 1926 — January 17, 2009

Kevin J. Cunningham, age 82 of Alliance, passed away at 10:35 a.m. January 17, 2009 at Roselawn Terrace. He was born Feb. 15, 1926 in New York, New York to Mary Esther Walsh and Leo Joseph Cunningham. He had lived in Alliance for approximately twenty years.
Kevin attended Cornell University and owned & operated a successful retail stationary store in New York City for 30 years. Later he became a Primitive Art Collector and Dealer. This business gave him opportunity to travel and explore many islands of the South Pacific interacting with the aboriginal natives in search of stone carved sculptures and other art and cultural items.
Kevin was of the Catholic faith, and member of the Mt. Union College Purple Raiders Booster Club. He will be best remembered for his infectious sense of humor and devoted love for his dear Elizabeth. He enjoyed fishing, golf, reading and traveling. He had a keen interest in Oceanic, primitive art and rare books on that subject.
A U.S. Navy WWII veteran, Kevin served in the Pacific Theatre.
Survivors include his loving life companion, Elizabeth Turkle of Alliance; sons Steve Cunningham of Castle Rock, Colorado, Ted Turkle of Newark, Delaware, Tyler Turkle of Tallahassee Florida; sister, Patricia Lacey of Pennsylvania; daughter-in-law, Bethany Cunningham of Florissant, Colorado and four granddaughters, Jamie, Casey, Jessica and Courtney. Teresa Wayne and Joe Freshly, both of Alliance, were his devoted friends and caregivers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda, son, Greg Cunningham; and brother; Jack Cunningham.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date, with interment at Fairmount Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Union College Football Program, 1972 Clark Ave., Alliance, Ohio 44601.
