L. Russell Gaines
L. Russell Gaines, age 70 of North Benton, died at 12:15 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005 at his home.
He was born Dec. 4, 1934 in Hilliard, Ohio to Roy and Annabel (Tuthill) Gaines and moved to this area in 1954.
Mr. Gaines was employed at American Steel as a Core Maker and retired from Auto Warehouse in Lordstown in 2005. He was a member of the North Benton United Presbyterian Church. As a member of the Piper Club, Russell held a private pilot's license with multiple engine ratings; he was also a member of the VFW and the American Legion Posts. Russell served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict on the USS Essex.
Survivors include his wife Virginia (Winters) Gaines whom he married Sept. 5 1959, a daughter Loujean (Jeffrey) Pusateri, two sons Russell (Diane) Gaines and Gregory (Cindy) Gaines all of North Benton, 8 grandchildren, three sisters Polly Elliot, Rosalie Branham, Neldarae Branham, Janet Lee Downey, one brother Roy Joe Gaines and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant son.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Henkel officiating. Friends may call Tuesday, Nov. 29th from 6 - 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment will be in Hartzell Cemetery.
