On October 31, 2018, Lanny Edwin Hisey passed away in his home in Marietta, GA surrounded by his family. He was born April 24, 1941 and was 77 years old.
Lanny lived most of his life in Alliance and spent his childhood in both Paris and Louisville, OH. He earned his music education degree from Capital University.
Mr. Hisey completed his thirty-eight year teaching career with the Alliance City Schools as a choir director/vocal music teacher at all levels, K-12. He also served as Music Director at Christ United Methodist Church for forty years, directing the Chancel Choir. The church is also where he met his wife of almost 40 years, Diane, whom he loved very much.
Lanny's love of music began early as he and his brother, Ernie, were known as The Harmony Brothers, singing for church and special events. He traveled the world with the Chapel Choir of Capital University. Always singing in a church choir, Lanny moved on to be the lead singer in a barbershop quartet, The Chalkdusters. He sang with a professional group directed by his brother, Ernie, called Cleve West, and with the non-profit group "A Chorus for a Cause" in Canton, OH. Most recently, Lanny was a member of the Adult Choir of Marietta First Methodist Church in Georgia.
Lanny will be greatly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, and all who knew him. He loved singing, gardening, fishing, and reading. His humor was infectious as he enjoyed trying to make people smile. Above all, he loved his family - spending time with them made Lanny happiest of all.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Diane Hisey; his children, Kristen (Larry) Freeman of Atlanta, GA, and Daniel Hisey of Chicago, Illinois; and his grandchildren "the triplets", Luciana, Desmond, and Jude Freeman; a brother, Ernest (Bernadette) Hisey of Westlake; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lanny was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Ida Hisey.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Christ United Methodist Church, with Rev. Chris Martin officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service, at the church.
