Larry J. Hawkins, age 54 of Alliance, died at his home at 6:14 a.m. Wednesday June 2, 2004.
Larry was born in Alliance on November 11, 1949 to Frank and Desma (Kirksey) Hawkins, and was a lifelong resident. He graduated in 1969 from Alliance High School and worked in security for Brinks Security.
He was a member of the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. His greatest enjoyment was walking. Larry also enjoyed baseball and collecting baseball caps. He had a special interest in rare cars, watching sports, and Larry loved to laugh and tell jokes.
Larry also supported people in furthering their education.
He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Era veteran.
Survivors include; two sons, LaDon Bell of Columbus, Oh., and Montez Brown of St. Louis, Mo., two daughters, Kymberly Malone of Detroit Mi., and Daniell Hayden of Killeen Tx., seven grandchildren, eight brothers, Roscoe of Detroit, Mi., James (Virginia) of Stone Mountain, Ga., Sylvester "Fuzzy" of Alliance, Chester (Barbara) of Dallas, Tx., Frank Jr. of Alliance, Michael of Daytona Beach, Fla., Marvin of Columbus, Oh., and Robert of Akron, Oh., three sisters, Joyce (Bobby) Williams of Alliance, Margaret Hawkins of Columbus, Oh., and Reda (Jacques) Pierre of Acworth, Ga., step-mother LeeDressa Hawkins of Gilbertown, Ala., five step-sisters; Ella (Robert) Pearson, Claudia (Lewis) DuBose, Josephine (Leon) Dozier, Earnestine (Douglas) Marsh, and Virginia Everett, and many nieces and nephews, cousins and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son Loren "Butch" Burgan.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Williams of the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, and one hour prior to the service. Burial with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post 166 and V.F.W. Post 1036 will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
