Laura Jo Dalton, age 83, of Sebring, passed away at 2:20 a.m., Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at Copeland Oaks.
She was born August 9, 1932, in Alliance, Ohio to Joseph and Marian H. (Morrow) Dalton.
Laura was a 1950 graduate of Alliance High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Kent State University. She also did post graduate work at Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA and Kent State University.
She was Director of Christian Education and Programming for two years at Alliance First United Presbyterian Church and Reading Specialist for Alliance Public Schools until retiring in 1985.
She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church, taught Sunday school, served as an elder and as the clerk of Session. She was also a member for 63 years of the Eastern Star Palmy Chapter and had served as Matron.
Laura was past president and former member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Kappa Delta Pi; former member and past president of Alliance City Panalentic; life member and past president of the Alliance Woman's Club; life member of Alliance Area Retired Teachers, Ohio Education Association, National Education Association and Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority.
She was also a member of Lakeside Property Owners Association, member and secretary of Lakeside Woman's Club, member of Lakeshore Association, Lakeshore Towers and served as secretary. She was a former member of Kaddish Court Ladies Oriental Shrine, former member and president of Qui Vive, past member of Quota International, A Martha Holden Jennings Scholar and member of the YWCA of Alliance.
Laura was an avid reader and knitted for "The Warm Up America" Project as well as prayer shawls, chemo caps and neonatal items.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 24, 2015 at First United Presbyterian Church with Rev. James McCurdy officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
