LaVerne Bernice Iacangelo, age 85, of Cleveland, Ohio, and formerly of Washington D.C., passed away at 7:10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Bel-Air Care Center of Alliance, Ohio.
She was born October 21, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio to Frank and Helenmay (Stroth) Neuman.
LaVerne graduated from Roosevelt High School in Washington, D.C. and attended Maryland University. She was employed by the Federal Government for 50 years, including the Department of Agriculture and General Services Administration.
Mrs. Iacangelo formerly attended Hyattsville Methodist Church; was a former board member for the G.S.A. Federal Credit Union, and member of the Pythian Sisters in Washington, D.C. An avid reader, LaVerne also enjoyed embroidery and crocheting.
Survivors include her daughter; Helenmay (John) Clapsaddle of Marlboro, OH; one granddaughter, Kimberly Ann (Dan) Spears of Hartville, OH; two great-granddaughters, Crystal Ann Spears and Kate Elizabeth Spears, both of Hartville, OH; and three nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pasquale "Pat" Iacangelo, whom she married September 9, 1946 and who died May 1, 1986, and sister, Virginia Drotar.
Friends may call at the Robert Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD on Thursday, May 24, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. A private family service will be held with entombment at Ft. Lincoln Cemetery, Washington, D.C.
In honor of her late husband, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 23297 Commerce Park, Cleveland, OH 44122; or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 332 N. Lauderdale St., Memphis, TN 38105.
