Lawrence N. Mitchell, DPM, age 81, of Alliance, died at 5:18 a.m., Monday, November 15, 2010 at Alliance Community Hospital.
He was born May 16, 1929 in Sharon, Pa., to Robert C. and Nancy (Enwistle) Mitchell.
A 1947 graduate of Sharpsville High School, he attended Youngstown University and was a 1954 graduate of Ohio College of Podiatry in Cleveland, Ohio. Lawrence practiced podiatry in Alliance from 1957 until his retirement in 2006.
He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, where he had been an elder, deacon and trustee. He was also a member of the local, state and national podiatry associations, North Eastern Academy, Ohio Podiatry Medical Association; and American Podiatry Medical Association. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and spending time with his family and friends.
Lawrence was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War serving from 1954 to 1956.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine (Barger) Mitchell, whom he married February 27, 1954; son, Larry (Jennie) Mitchell of Salem; two daughters, Sandy M. SierraValle and Cathy A. Mitchell both of Alliance; three granddaughters, Mandy, Abby and Cassie; and one great-granddaughter, Tori.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Beverly McQuiston.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 19, 2010 at First United Presbyterian Church with Pastor James McCurdy officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
