Lena May (Retherford) Kunkle, age 89, of Alliance, passed away at 7:40 a.m., Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at her home.
She was born September 9, 1925, in Akron, Ohio, to Henry and Carrie (Jones) Retherford and has lived in Alliance since the 1970's.
Lena graduated from Buchtel High School and Riggs-Lamar School of Cosmetology.
She was a member of the Alliance Saxon Ladies Lodge where she served as treasurer for 30 years. She loved making crafts and baking.
Survivors include her husband, David Kunkle, whom she married June 29, 1974; daughters, Judy (Guy) Baker of Lake Milton, Linda (Ray) McDaniel of Ravenna and Barb (Sirena) Carpenter-Hands of Alliance; stepson, David (Karen) Kunkle and stepdaughter, June (Daniel) Taylor, both of Tampa, Florida; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Doris (John) Jones of Diamond.
Lena was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Matthew Arnett; three brothers; and two sisters.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 4, 2014, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Ballert of Bethel Baptist Church in Ravenna officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alliance Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice 885 S. Sawburg Rd. Suite 106, Alliance, OH 44601.
