Lena Wiggs, age 93, of Atwater, Ohio, died at 8:50 a.m. Sunday, October 31, 2010, at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna, Ohio.
She was born September 24, 1917, in Taylor County, West Virginia to Lawrence Mead and Bettie Clay (Benton) Ford and has resided in the vicinity for the past 66 years.
Lena graduated from Beelington West Virginia High School and Goodyear Industrial School. She was employed as a cashier at the former Hillyer's Cornucopia in Atwater, an Avon Representative and caretaker for Home Health Care.
She was a member of the Atwater United Methodist Church, Senior Citizens Center, Pythian Sisters and Modern Homemakers.
Survivors include her sons, Charles R. Wiggs of Atwater and Larry L. (Lorainne) Wiggs of Taylor, South Carolina; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jessie L. Wiggs whom she married May 9, 1937 and who died in 1977; two sons, Howard R. Wiggs and James L. Wiggs; two grandchildren, Brian and Darla Wiggs; and two brothers and five sisters.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Atwater Cemetery with Pastor William Nicewarner of Atwater United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow.
