Leroy "Roy" A. Diebel age 85 of Louisville, and formerly of Alliance died at 8:15 p.m. Friday Dec. 19, 2003 at Oakhill Manor.
Mr. Diebel was born in Alliance on April 16, 1918 to Leo and Lillie (Nicholson) Diebel and was a lifelong resident of Limaville and Alliance. A graduate of Alliance High School, he was the former owner and operator of Roy's Barbershop in Alliance from 1947-1987.
A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mr. Diebel was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 166, and enjoyed fishing, golfing and woodworking.
Mr. Diebel was a U. S. Army WWII veteran, having served during the Battle of Bulge with the 561st Field Artillery Battery C, 37th Division. He was the recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 5 bronze stars, and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Kay (Howard) Snyder of Malvern, Susan (Gerard) Vancavage of Bedford, one son, Keith (Terri) Diebel of Amelia, Oh, 6 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson and one sister, Lucille (Daniel) Conser of Youngstown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Elizabeth "Betty" (Gwin) Diebel, whom he married June 15, 1946 and who died in June 1999, one son Thomas Edward Diebel, and one brother LaVern Diebel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Donald Feicht officiating. Friends may call from 8:30-10 a.m. Tuesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
