Lester C. Welch Jr., age 78, of Alliance, died at 1:18 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Alliance Community Hospital.
He was born June 2, 1934 in Akron, Ohio to Lester C. and Clarice A. (Curnew) Welch.
Mr. Welch retired in 1994 after 31 years of service with the Chrysler Corporation.
A member of Holy Lamb Church of God, Lester enjoyed building model churches out of Popsicle sticks, gardening and fishing.
Lester was a U. S. Navy veteran, having served from 1952-1955.
Survivors include children, David C. Welch, Beth Ann Stevenson, Denver R. Thornton, Teena Flory, and Thomas S. Thornton, all of Alliance; 13 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; brother, Jack Welch, of Roanoke, NC, sister, Mary Locklay, of Alliance, and a large extended family.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bobby Jo Criss; wife, Betty (Shaw), whom he married Feb. 11, 1972, and who died June 1, 2011, and brothers, Don and Darwin.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday May 8, 2013 at Holy Lamb of God Church with Rev. Bob Workman officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
