Lewis Carlton Emery Jr, age 78, of Alliance, passed away at 9:48 p.m., Monday, February 22, 2016, at Canterbury Villa.
He was born February 22, 1938, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, to Lewis Sr. and Stella (Davis) Emery. He moved to Alliance in 1971 to be a manager at Kroger's Grocery Store.
Lewis graduated from Wesleyan College in West Virginia with a bachelor degree and also attended Potomac State.
He then became self-employed as an insurance salesman for Combined Insurance, Old American Insurance and then with McConnell Insurance Agency in Alliance.
Lewis was a member of First Baptist Church and founder of the men's fellowship breakfast. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Panama and at Ft. Jackson in South Carolina.
In addition to being a member of Alliance Kiwanis Club, he was also a past president. He was an avid sports fan - especially West Virginia and Mount Union College and all Cleveland teams. He drove to Alaska on a mission trip for his church and later returned to Alaska and traveled on to the Arctic Circle.
Besides his wife of 56 years, Mary A. (Andrick) Emery, whom he married December 21, 1959, Lewis is survived by his children, Mary Elizabeth Emery of Powell Ohio, Lewis Carlton (Kim) Emery III of Alliance and William Andrick Emery of Bath, Ohio; brother, Charles Edward (Zoreh Asarzadeh) Emery of both Albuquerque, New Mexico and Tronconeo, Mexico; two grandsons, Alexander Christian Emery and Dylan Carlton Emery; four nephews; two nieces; three great-nephews; two great-nieces; and a great grandchild, expected in July of this year.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Robert Davis Emery; and an infant sister.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, February 25, 2016 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Steven Rhodes officiating. Friends may call the hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow. Burial will take place at a later date at Heavener Cemetery in Buckhannon, West Virginia.
His family wishes to extend a special thank you to Canterbury Villa and Alliance Hospice staffs for their special care of Lewis. Also a special thank you to Alliance Community Hospitals doctors, nurses and staffs.
