Lincoln L. Snow, Sr. was born August 13, 1931, in Rochester, Pennsylvania. He was the eighth of nine children born to the late Mr. William H. Snow, Sr. and Mrs. Mattie Snow. The family subsequently moved to Alliance, Ohio where they ran a large farm.
After graduating high school, Lincoln joined the Air Force on December 14, 1949. In 1952 he arrived in Alaska as a 2nd Class USAF Airman on the USS Brewster Transport ship. He was stationed at Elmendorf AFB. While home on leave in 1952, he reconnected with Miss Alice Fortner, whom he had known growing up. He asked her a critical question: “How would you like to change your name?” After some discussion it was agreed that indeed she would become his wife. Lincoln dedicated his extra time working 180 hours per month at the BX so that he could work and save to bring Alice to Alaska. She arrived in June 1953, and wasting no time, they were married on June 27th. To this union, in rapid succession five sons were born, Lincoln Lee, Jr., Keith Lydell, Rodney Earl, Marshall Wayne, and Michael Henry.
In his professional life, Lincoln, Sr. was discharged from the Air Force, in December 1953, and began working in Civil Service, performing various jobs starting as a supply warehouseman, working his way up foreman. In 1956, he joined the Air National Reserves, and ultimately retired as a Paint Foreman. Work did not sustain him, as Lincoln, Sr. joined the Church of God in Christ in 1954 under the leadership of Elder A.J. Osborne. Afterwards, he became a member of Friendly Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Charles D. Williams. In 1956, he gave his life to the Lord and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost that same year. Lincoln, Sr. later joined the choir, then the usher board, and later became a member of the Deacon’s board. He had a deep, abiding faith and felt called to the ministry. After serving as a minister and the local Sunday School Superintendent he was ordained as an Elder. Ultimately, he became the State Level Sunday School Superintendent, President of the USAC, National Adjutant and Chief Adjutant for the State of Alaska. He pastored Center of Hope, COGIC until 2018, when he gave the reins to his youngest son, Michael. Lincoln also loved people and worked in community to provide food and clothing to the needy. His giving heart was evident throughout his life, and it was not uncommon for him to bring home servicemen who were new to Alaska. In the Snow home they would enjoy a great meal and hospitality. Everyone who met Lincoln were charmed by his sense of humor, and his joyful spirit. He loved his family deeply, and he was extremely distraught over the passing of the love of his life, Alice in 2019. He often commented how much he missed her.
Lincoln, Sr. went home to glory on Monday, June 13, 2022.
He is survived by his five sons whom he and Alice called their “five stars”: Lincoln, Jr. (Ivy) of Indianapolis, Indiana; Keith (Kathy) of Lake Stevens, Washington; Rodney of Tacoma, Washington; Wayne (Theresa) of Kent, Washington & Michael (Denise) of Anchorage, Alaska, and numerous grand-children, great-grand-children. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Ola Riddle, Lola Vee Kelly, Naola Fearrington, & brother-in-law, Roosevelt Fortner, as well as countless nieces, nephews and friends. He will be deeply missed.
His parting words to anyone were “God loves you, & I love you and there’s nothing you can do about it! Wait for the sound of the trumpet!”
