Lloyd Edward Barker, age 94, of Alliance, passed away peacefully at his home with his daughter and Richard by his side, on Tuesday, August 18, 2020
He was born on February 18, 1926, to Arlie Lee and Nancy (Collins) Barker. Lloyd went on to serve his country honorably in WWII in the United States Navy as a Seabee.
After his military service, Lloyd began work at Babcock & Wilcox in the Tubular Division, as a reamer and crane operator, where he stayed until his retirement after 44 years.
Lloyd enjoyed spending time with his late wife, Evelyn Janice (Shuster) Barker, whom he married June 26, 1949 at First Christian Church, and who passed away December 14, 2013. The couple had been members of First Christian Church since April 9, 1950.
Lloyd hobbies included carpentry, boating, bowling, golfing, traveling, and watching football, and Westerns on T.V. He was totally devoted to his family.
He was very active in the Alliance community, including Friends of Rodman Library, patron member of Carnation City Players, Alliance Community Concert Assoc., and the Alliance Senior Citizens Center, where he and Evelyn went on bus trips and volunteered during bingo nights for many years. Lloyd was also a member of Alliance Community Hospital Auxiliary, the Mount Union College 1846 Society, and former member of the VFW Post #1036, D.A.V. Chapter 50, and the American Legion Post 166.
Those left to cherish his memory are his only daughter, Janice Lynn Barker-McLaughlin; Richard Michael Newman; siblings, Virgil Barker; Dr. Wilma Faye (Barker) Hollaway, Juanita (Richards) Barker, Eleanor (Barker) Zimmerman; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews; several cousins; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Arlie Jr. and Margaret Barker, Stanley Chester Barker, Carl and Deloris (Barker) Weigel Jr, infant twin brother and sister, Leroy and Lenore; and in-laws, Atty. Elwood Harry Shuster & Eileen (Hoebecke) Shuster, Rudy M. Hollaway, N. Arthur Zimmerman, Pearl (Linaberg) Barker.
A private graveside service at Fairmount Memorial Park will be held at a later date.
