Lois Orinne Dore, age 96, of Sebring, formerly of Alliance, passed away at 12:25 p.m., Sunday, May 1, 2011, at Alliance Community Hospital.
She was born June 30, 1914, in Amsterdam, Ohio, to William Ellsworth and Mary Helen (Anderson) Smith.
Lois was a 1932 graduate of Alliance High School and a graduate of Kent State University. She was employed by the former Boston Store and later taught second grade at N. Lincoln Elementary School, the former Riverside Elementary School and retired from the former Liberty Elementary School in 1974.
A member of the First United Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, Lois was a Circle Leader, Member of the Camp Limrod Committee and former secretary of the Sisters Group of the church. She was also a former member of the Retired Teachers Association, the Eastern Star Chapter No. 296, and the Alliance Women's Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice R. Rohrich of Willowick, Oh.; son, James R. (Sarah) Dore of Naperville, Ill.; six grandchildren, David, Danny, Robert, Debra, James and Jennifer; two great-grandsons, James and Jonathan; and several nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter R. Dore, whom she married June 30, 1937 and who died August 1986; two sisters; and a brother.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor James McCurdy officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
