Lowell C. "Bud" Freshley, age 87, died Thursday, September 18, 2008 at Alliance Community Hospital after an extended illness. He was born January 4, 1921, in Alliance to Percy and Margaret Hazel (Brown) Freshley, who passed away in 1970. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1939. At Mount Union College he majored in Economics, and graduated from there in three and a half years. Being the youngest Second Lieutenant to leave Fort Sill, Colorado at that time, he served with the U.S. Army in World War II. Following the war, he earned his Masters Degree in Business Admininistration from Northwestern University in Chicago. He was the first student at that university to take the oral exam. In New York he worked for Amsco Film Corporation for thirteen years, and then returned to Alliance where he was employed by Butler-Wick and Burden Electric. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Doris (Freshley) Wiggers who died on June 24, 1998. He is survived by his nieces and nephew, Karen (Tom, deceased) Taylor of Alliance, Rick (Nancy) Wiggers of Mantua, Carol (George) Cardinal of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Donna (Rick) Young of Green, Ohio. Other survivors include his 13 grandnieces and nephews, his 15 great grandnieces and nephews, as well as several cousins. "Uncle Bud", as he was fondly known was a gentle man. He influenced those he loved and changed their lives because of his generosity and unselfishness. Everyone who would meet him would comment about his "blue eyes" and his wonderful, giving spirit. His kindness was also reflected in the care of his three favorite pets, Pete, Sassy and Moose. This intelligent, witty man will be greatly missed. Friends may call from 6-7 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2008 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday following the visitation.
