Lowell Hoffman

December 9, 1915 — August 4, 2005

Lowell Thompson Hoffman, age 89, a lifetime resident of Alliance was called to be with the Lord at 2:35 a.m. Thursday, August 4, 2005 at Green Meadows Care Center.
He was born Dec. 9, 1915 in Alliance, Ohio to Essie Thompson Hoffman and Ford Trump Hoffman. He attended Alliance High School and worked for 44 years at Transue and Williams as a Die Maker, retiring on August 31, 1981.
Lowell was a loyal member of First United Presbyterian Church of Alliance. He served for 78 years in the capacity as an Elder, Deacon, Head Usher, Nomination Committee, Worship and Music Committee, and various other aspects of the church.
He loved sports, especially baseball, where he served as an Umpire for 18 years for the Hot Stove League, Alliance High School and Mount Union College. He was a member of the Alliance Athletic Booster Club for 30 years, and on the Alliance Booster Club Board.
His other interests were working on the Polls for the Board of Elections, delivering Meals on Wheels, and a Board Member for Transue and Williams Credit Union. He was also an active member of the Senior Citizens Center and AARP.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Cotton, and his parents, Ford and Essie Hoffman.
He is survived by two daughters, Lo Ann (Jack) Donley of Beaufort, South Carolina, and Joyce (James) Thorpe of Alliance; two sons, John Hoffman, and Ford (Barbara) Hoffman, both of Alliance; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, one sister, Miriam Smith of Raleigh, North Carolina, and his best friend, Olwen Evans of Alliance.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First United Presbyterian Church with Rev. William Sadler officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
The Hoffman Family would like to thank Hospice of Stark County for their care. A special thank you to Green Meadows, the staff of B Wing, and the Dialysis Unit.
