Lowell Edward Nichols, age 83, of Canton, and formerly of Alliance, passed away Saturday August 31, 2019 at Country Lawn Health Care Center in Navarre.
He was born February 26, 1936, in Summerfield Twp., Michigan to Elvin H. and Beryl I. (Cox) Nichols.
A 1956 graduate of Tecumseh High School, Tecumseh, Michigan, Lowell attended one year at Cleveland Bible College, now Malone University.
He was a self-employed typewriter repairman at Nichols Typewriter Clinic from 1967 until 1990, before working as a Security Guard for 16 years.
A former member of both the Alliance and Atwater Church of the Nazarene, he was later a member of the Canton First Church of the Nazarene.
Lowell loved woodworking, making children’s toys, helping others, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his sons, Rev. Lynn (Penny) Nichols of Fort Worth, TX, and Gary (Beth) Nichols of Jackson Twp., OH.; daughters, Connie (Ron) Flack of Canton, and Chris (Rev. Robert) Merki of Thurmont, MD; brothers, Carrol (Jane) Nichols of Traverse City, MI, and Billy (Lorraine) Nichols, of Phoenix, AZ; 12 grandchildren, Melissa Craig, Andrea Wetherald, Aimee Juarez, Peggy Eden, Adam Nichols, Johnathan Nichols, Alyse Flack-Brown, Trevor Nichols, Travis Nichols, Jacquelyn Merki-Butler, Jonathan Merki, and Alexandra Merki; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Thelma Irene Nichols whom he married February 17, 1957, and who died February 19, 2010; brother, Channing; and sister, June Clark.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2019 at the Canton First Church of the Nazarene, 522 30th St. NW Canton, OH 44709, co-officiated by Pastor’s Lynn Nichols and Robert Merki.
Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church.
Services will also be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at the Rollin Friends Church, 16896 Rome Rd., Addison, MI 49220.

Interment will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park, in Adrian, MI.
