M. Elizabeth Layne age 79 of Gambrills, Maryland, and formerly of Alliance, died at 4:00 a.m. July 3, 2004 at Regency Park Assisted Living in Gambrills.
She was born in Pleasants County West Virginia on August 4, 1924 to Pearl C. and Maggie (DeLong) Harris, and lived in Alliance for 25 years until moving to Gambrills, Maryland.
Mrs. Layne previously worked at Taylor, Smith and Taylor Pottery in Chester, West Virginia. She was a volunteer with the Alliance Red Cross Blood Mobile, and worked at the Alliance Woman's Club.
She enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening and bingo.
Survivors include one daughter Sue A. (William) Shevock of Glen Burnie, Maryland, two sons Richard A. Layne of Mt. Gilead, Ohio and Ronald H. Layne; two granddaughters Amy E. Shevock-Starr of Pasadena, Maryland and Holly A. Sloniewsky of Sterling, Virginia, and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Layne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred A. Layne, who died May 1, 1979, one brother and seven sisters.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. David Hostetler officiating. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
